GAME LAUNCHED 2016 / 2020
ART LEAD / PLAY DESIGNER / PRODUCT LEAD

Musical Coding Game

Coding Jam is a music game that uses the Osmo Coding Blocks to compose musical loops. Explore the creative side of coding with hands-on music-making!

My role started as an art lead and designer to create a game full of animated worlds and characters while co-designing an experience that would be approachable to even the most novice of music-makers.

As Product Lead I later led a team to improve onboarding and revamp the visual scenes of the game for the relaunch of the Starter Kit.

Game Design

Coding Jam was co-designed with Felix Hu. It is played by assembling and connecting the Osmo Coding Blocks (creating patterns and sequences), and then running your code to create musical loops.

The Osmo Reflector sees the code, and then tells your band member which musical objects to play and how many times. Kids can safely record and share their music with friends, family and the Jam community.

I was involved with developing, play testing, and iterating the UX and game levels. It was my responsibility to write and create detailed game documentation used for internal and external usage.

Musical Worlds

Coding Jam is filled with over 300 musical objects. New characters will join your Jam Crew the more you practice or publish new music. Each new member of your crew has a different theme and set of musical objects.

Collaborating with Osmo’s Sr. Animator and Artist, Asia Stopyra, we created a band of unique and quirky characters based off my initial design of Tez. Hundreds of thematic objects were illustrated and animated to come to life as musical sounds.

JamTV

JamTV is an awesome place to listen to jams created by other players from around the world! You can listen for fun, rate jams with emojis, earn category badges, and learn how to code new jams!
